Dave and Nikki Stanton at Wellspring Deer Farm welcome guests to their country home with its large gardens and beautiful views of green pasture and hills beyond. They farm 800 acres, running 500 deer, 100 cattle and occasional sheep. Guests are invited to join farm tours and can often help the family with livestock tasks.

The farmstay is conveniently located for visitors travelling to Queenstown, Mount Cook and Christchurch and is only 10 minutes from the popular foodie mecca and friendly shopping village of Geraldine. If you can, be there for the Farmers Market on Saturday; otherwise head for Four Peaks Plaza on Talbot Street. Some wonderful free sample tastings are available - everything from New Zealand's own Gin and Vodka and local wines to rare fruit liqueurs and schnapps, plus award-winning honeys, preserves, cheeses, chocolates and ice cream.

As well as a vintage cinema that miraculously shows all the latest films, an excellent public library with free Internet access, a community swimming pool, a wide variety of cafes and restaurants, a museum of old New Zealand and the world's only completed Bayeux Tapestry, the boutique shopping village of Geraldine features a remarkable and unique selection of local produce.
